Woodturning is a form of\u00a0woodworking<\/a> that is used to create wooden objects on a\u00a0lathe<\/a> (see: also antique woodenpolelathe<\/a>). Woodturning differs from most other forms of woodworking in that the\u00a0wood<\/a> is moving while a stationary tool is used to cut and shape it. Many intricate shapes and designs can be made by turning wood.\r\n\r\nThere are two distinct methods of turning wood:\u00a0spindle turning<\/a> and\u00a0faceplate turning<\/a>. In spindle turning, the wood is fixed between 2 points. The spur center digs in to the wood and is powered by a\u00a0motor<\/a>. The other, a hard center or a live center may be a point or set of points in the tailstock. In face plate turning, the wood is secured with screws to a faceplate or in a chuck or jig. the tail stock and a center may also be used for added support on large pieces with a faceplate. Most bowls, platters and many vessels are face plate turned, while, Pens, furniture legs, spindles, and some vessels are spindle turned. The method used may differ depending on the shape of the blank and the technique of the turner, and both methods may be used on the same piece.\r\n\r\nWhen wood is cut in such a way that the fiber being cut is not supported by the fiber below it, it tends to separate and tear. This \"tearout\" exhibits a rough, highly damaged looking surface texture and greatly reduces the value of any product exhibiting it. The direction of cut is different in spindle turning and faceplate turning because cutting in the wrong direction can cause tearout. Spindle turning cuts are made from high points toward the axis on the outside of the piece, and from the axis toward the outside when hollowing. Off-site removals just involve a bit more work, and added costs.\r\nOn-site Removals<\/h2>\r\nOn-site removals are almost always performed to gain a suitable expanse of land to place another house on. Performing an on-site removal is [comparable cost\/cheaper\/more expensive] than an off-site removal, though it can involve complications of its own. The entire process for performing an on-site removal is outlined below.\r\n\r\n \t- A [free?] initial consultation should be completed with BCW Design to check that the move can produce a suitable second building site as per council\/building requirements.<\/li>\r\n \t
- A full set of measurements must be taken of the house on-site, along with photos for general reference. The measurements are required for the following:\r\nInside:<\/strong> measures are required inside the house to plot a detailed floor plan.\r\nOutside:<\/strong> measurements are required outside to show the physical exterior dimensions of the house, to check against property boundaries and landmarks.\r\nUnderneath:<\/strong> measurements are required underneath the house for the sub-floor plan, to determine the exact bearer and joist layout.<\/li>\r\n \t

- A further consultation should be made with BCW Design to determine the optimal use of the site. Rely on Bruce's 30 years of house removal experience to help you make the best use of space to hold the existing house, and allow for the maximum amount of space for any new construction.<\/li>\r\n \t

<\/a>A house being prepared to be transported<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\nOff-site removals include almost everything in the on-site removals, however there are a few earlier steps that need to be completed.\r\n\r\n \t- A [free?] initial consultation should be completed with BCW Design to get a preliminary assessment of a house the client is looking at purchasing for their site. Typically, the house will found either on Trademe, through a friend, or a house mover company. BCW Design will ensure that the site is a suitable size and shape for the proposed house.<\/li>\r\n \t
- The client should pay a conditional deposit on the house - conditional to obtaining a resource and building consent. This is to ensure that if the consents aren't obtained, the deposit is returned.<\/li>\r\n \t
- A second-hand building report will need to be completed by a building certified. This reports on the condition of the house so that when the building consent is lodged, the council have a report on the general condition of the house, and will be required for lodging the consents. BCW Design can supply certifier recommendations if required.<\/li>\r\n \t

Many intricate shapes and designs can be made by turning wood.\r\n\r\nThere are two distinct methods of turning wood:\u00a0spindle turning<\/a> and\u00a0faceplate turning<\/a>. In spindle turning, the wood is fixed between 2 points. The spur center digs in to the wood and is powered by a\u00a0motor<\/a>. The other, a hard center or a live center may be a point or set of points in the tailstock. In face plate turning, the wood is secured with screws to a faceplate or in a chuck or jig. the tail stock and a center may also be used for added support on large pieces with a faceplate. Most bowls, platters and many vessels are face plate turned, while, Pens, furniture legs, spindles, and some vessels are spindle turned. The method used may differ depending on the shape of the blank and the technique of the turner, and both methods may be used on the same piece.\r\n\r\nWhen wood is cut in such a way that the fiber being cut is not supported by the fiber below it, it tends to separate and tear. This \"tearout\" exhibits a rough, highly damaged looking surface texture and greatly reduces the value of any product exhibiting it. The direction of cut is different in spindle turning and faceplate turning because cutting in the wrong direction can cause tearout. Spindle turning cuts are made from high points toward the axis on the outside of the piece, and from the axis toward the outside when hollowing.
